Caregiver Compensation - Kentucky

Kentucky offers four ways to get paid as a family caregiver.

 

1. The Hart-Supported Living Program: is a non-Medicaid program that allows elderly and disabled adults who cannot complete activities of daily living to remain at home. This program allows friends and family members to be hired and paid for providing personal care services. Other services may include: adult day care, respite care, and accessibility related home modifications.

 

Program Requirements

    • MUST be a Kentucky resident
    • MUST be disabled
    • All caregivers eligible

2, Home and Community-Based Waiver: enables elderly and/or disabled adults who require nursing facility level of assistance to receive care at home. Through this program, friends and certain family members can be paid for providing personal care services. Other services range from adult day care and respite care to meal deliveries. 

 

Program Requirements

    • MUST be a Kentucky resident
    • MUST be 65+ or disabled
    • MUST require nursing facility level of care
    • MUST be Medicaid eligible
    • All caregivers eligible

3. Michelle P. Waiver: enables adults with intellectual or developmental disabilities to receive care at home. This program pays for family members to provide personal care services. Other services include respite care to accessibility related home modifications.

 

Program Requirements

    • MUST be a resident of Kentucky
    • MUST have an intellectual or developmental disability
    • MUST be Medicaid eligible
    • All caregivers eligible

4. The Personal Care Attendant Program: is a non-Medicaid program designed to help adults with functional loss of two or more limbs receive care at home. This program pays for family members to provide personal care services. 

 

Program Requirements

    • MUST be a Kentucky resident
    • MUST be 18+
    • MUST be severely disabled with permanent or temporary reoccurring functional loss of two or more limbs
    • MUST require at least 14, but no more than 40, hours of attendant care per week 
    • All caregivers eligible
