Maryland offers three ways to get paid as a family caregiver.

 

1. Maryland Attendant Care Program: is a non-Medicaid program that helps elderly and/or disabled adults receive care at home. Services may include chores and/or cleaning and transportation assistance. 

 

Program Requirements

    • MUST be resident of Maryland
    • MUST be diagnosed with severe chronic or physical disability
    • MUST be between ages 18-64
    • MUST meet at least ONE of the following: 
      • Be employed
      • Be actively seeking employment
      • Attending college or educational program
      • Be a resident at nursing facility and seeking transition into community
      • Be at risk for placement into nursing facility, if not for attendant care services
      • Family caregivers MUST be 18+ to qualify
      • Spouses are NOT eligible

2. Maryland Community First Choice and Caring for Aging Loved Ones: enables elderly and/or disabled adults who require nursing facility level of assistance to receive care at home. Through this program, friends and certain family members can be paid for providing personal care services. 

 

Program Requirements

    • MUST be a resident of Maryland
    • MUST be Medicaid eligible
    • MUST be medically qualified (as determined by local Health Department)
    • Certain family members may be ineligible

3. Maryland Community Pathways Waiver: enables adults with intellectual or developmental disabilities to receive care at home. This program pays for family members to provide personal care services. Does not cover senior care.

 

Program Requirements

    • MUST be a resident of Maryland
    • MUST have an intellectual or developmental disability
    • MUST be Medicaid eligible
    • Spouses are NOT eligible
