Caregiver Compensation - Michigan

Michigan offers two ways to get paid as a family caregiver.

 

1. Home Help: assists elderly and disabled adults who cannot complete activities of daily living to remain at home. Through this program, friends and certain family members can be paid for providing personal care services including: meal preparation, laundry, and general housekeeping. 

 

Program Requirements

    • MUST be a resident of Michigan
    • MUST be 18+ years of age
    • MUST need assistance with at least ONE daily living activity
    • MUST be Medicaid eligible
    • Spouses are NOT eligible

2. Michigan Choice Waiver Program: is designed to help elderly and disabled adults receive care at home or in a community setting. Through this program, friends and certain family members can be paid for providing personal care services. Other services may include: adult day care, respite care, and environmental modifications. 

 

Program Requirements

    • MUST be a resident of Michigan
    • MUST be 65+, OR, disabled
    • MUST require nursing home level of care
    • MUST be Medicaid eligible
    • Spouses are NOT eligible
