Caregiver Compensation - Oregon

Oregon offers five ways to get paid as a family caregiver.

 

1. Client-Employed Provider Program: is designed to help elderly and disabled adults, who require nursing facility level of assistance, to receive care at home. This program pays for certain family members to provide personal care services.

 

Program Requirements

    • MUST be a resident of Oregon
    • MUST be 65+, OR, disabled
    • MUST require nursing facility level of care
    • MUST be Medicaid eligible
    • All caregivers eligible

2. Independent Choices Program: enables elderly and/or disabled adults who require nursing facility level of assistance to receive care at home. This program allows the care recipient to choose and pay family members or friends to provide personal care services.

 

Program Requirements

    • MUST be a resident of Oregon
    • MUST be 65+, OR, physically disabled 
    • MUST require nursing facility level of care
    • MUST be able to self-direct their care
    • MUST be Medicaid eligible
    • All caregivers eligible

3. K Plan: enables elderly and disabled adults to receive care at home or in a community setting. This program allows certain family members to be hired and paid to carry out personal care services. Other services range from adult day and respite care to meal deliveries.

 

Program Requirements

    • MUST be a resident of Oregon 
    • MUST require nursing facility level of care
    • MUST be Medicaid eligible
    • All caregivers eligible

4. Oregon Project Independence (OPI): helps the caregivers of those who cannot complete activities of daily living to remain at home as well as those diagnosed with Alzheimer’s and similar conditions. Under this program, certain family members can be hired and paid to carry out personal care services.

 

Program Requirements

    • MUST be a resident of Oregon
    • MUST be 60+, OR, have diagnosis of Alzheimer's or related dementia, MS, or inoperable brain tumor
    • MUST require nursing facility level of care
    • MUST NOT be eligible for Medicaid
    • Spouses are NOT eligible

5. Spousal Pay Program: allows spouses to be compensated for acting as primary caregivers.

 

Program Requirements

    • MUST be a resident of Oregon
    • MUST be legally married to spouse
    • MUST require nursing facility level of care
    • MUST be Medicaid eligible
    • The caregiver and spouse MUST both be residents of Oregon, legally married, and residing at home (not in a skilled nursing home or assisted living facility)
