South Carolina offers two ways to get paid as a family caregiver.

 

1. Community Choices / Long Term Care Waiver: enables elderly and/or disabled adults who require nursing facility level of assistance to receive care at home. Under this program, certain family members can be hired and paid to carry out personal care services. Other services range from adult day and respite care to meal deliveries. 

 

Program Requirements

    • MUST be a resident of South Carolina
    • MUST be 18+ and disabled, or 65+
    • MUST require nursing facility level of care
    • MUST be Medicaid eligible
    • Spouses are NOT eligible

2. Community Supports Waiver: is designed to help adults with intellectual or related disabilities receive care at home. This program pays for family members to provide personal care services.

 

Program Requirements

    • MUST be a resident of South Carolina
    • MUST have an intellectual or related disability
    • MUST be Medicaid eligible
    • Spouses are NOT eligible
